Companion Planting Calculator User Guide

What It Does:
This calculator helps you identify which plants grow well together and which should be planted apart, promoting healthier and more productive gardens.

How to Use:

  1. Choose Plant Categories:
    Use the tabs at the top to switch between Vegetables, Herbs, and Flowers. Each tab displays a grid of plants in that category.
  2. Select Plants:
    Click on any plant card to select it. The selected plant card will highlight, and the plant name will appear in the “Selected Plants” section below.
    To deselect, click the plant card again or click the “×” button next to the plant in the selected list.
  3. View Selected Plants:
    The number of selected plants is shown next to the heading. You can remove plants individually or clear all selections with the “Clear All” button.
  4. Check Compatibility:
    After choosing at least two plants, click the “Check Compatibility” button.
    The results show plant pairings divided into:
    • Excellent Companions: Plants with mutually beneficial relationships.
    • Poor Companions: Plants that may inhibit each other’s growth.
    • Neutral Companions: Plants with no significant positive or negative interactions.
  5. Read Companion Benefits:
    For good companion pairs, benefits such as pest control, improved flavor, or soil enhancement are listed for better garden planning.
  6. Gardening Tips:
    Below the compatibility results, useful tips guide you on spacing, crop rotation, and companion planting best practices.

Pro Tips:

  • Select plants you intend to grow to get actionable compatibility insights.
  • Space plants based on compatibility to maximize garden health.
  • Use the “Clear All” button to start fresh when planning new combos.
